Trivia
Three Lagoons
Carlsbad is the only city in San Diego County with three lagoons, including Buena Vista Lagoon, Agua Hedionda, and Batiquitos Lagoon. These protected wetlands provide habitat for hundreds of species of birds, fish, and wildlife, making them some of the best places in Southern California for hiking, kayaking, birdwatching, and nature photography.
Carlsbad’s Mineral Water
Carlsbad got its name from its mineral-rich water. In the 1880s, a local well was discovered to have water with a mineral composition similar to the famous healing springs of Karlsbad (now Karlovy Vary) in the Czech Republic. The town was eventually renamed Carlsbad in honor of its European namesake.
“Titanium Valley”
Carlsbad is nicknamed “Titanium Valley” because it’s home to many of the world’s leading golf equipment companies. Brands like Callaway Golf, TaylorMade, COBRA Golf, and Titleist have helped make Carlsbad a global hub for golf innovation.
